Henrico County iBook Auction Turns Into Riot

5000 people + 1000 iBooks for sale at $50 apiece + 5 cops = small riot

I am yet again disappointed in humanity's ability to get completely apeshit crazy over stuff. And over four year old iBooks? You have got to be shitting me Private Pyle.

And why didn't the school price them higher? Didn't they need the money? At that price, they could have donated them to people stuck across the digital divide, and written off a lot more.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The mad rush implies that the demand would have generated much higher prices. Perhaps EBay would have been a better idea? At least, I can't imagine that any cops would have been necessary.

I read somewhere or other that they had some kind of deal to sell them for cheap to Henrico Country residents.
